Subject: Computer time for CS206 for the coming academic year
\J In 1974-75, it will again be necessary to find PDP-10 computer
time for CS206 - Computing with symbolic expressions. As you will
remember, the course is taught in the Fall and in the Spring, and this
year the IMSS computer was used at a cost of about $9400 for both
quarters. This arrangement worked out well for myself, Professor
Green who taught the course in the Spring, and for Professor Suppes.
Suppes is willing to continue the arrangement next year, and this seems
like the best way to do it.
The alternative to finding the money is to reduce the number
of students each time the course is taught from 60 to 20 and to teach
it on the AI Lab machine or not to teach the course at all. It is not
suitable for batch processing, and SCIP last year quoted $21,000 for
the computer time not counting the use of terminals.
I hope that you will again be able to solve this problem.\.
